NEWSTEAD HALL OPENED. [BT TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Tuesday. The Newstead Public Hall was officially opened by the Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Health, to-day. Speeches were made by M\ W. Griffin, chairman of the hall committee, and Mr. T. Hinton, the riding representative on the Waikato County Council. Mr. Young congratulated the district on the fine building ihat had been erected. The growth of any district was the result of the activities of the people, and he applauded the enterprise shown by the settlers in the Newstead district. Apart from the voluntary labour which had been supplied for the erection of the hall, an amount of £250 in cash had been raised. When it was considered that the total value of the building and furniture was about £BOO it was seen that great credit was due to the local people. Mr. Young called upon Mrs. W. J. Manktelow, an old resident of the district, to perform the opening ceremony. The new hall is buiit cf wood and was erected by voluntary labour. It provides for a main hall, a stage and two anterooms.
