BISHOP'S WORLD TOUR.

VISITOR FROM AMERICA. IMPRESSIONS OF DOMINION. " A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY." On a world tour in search of health, Bishop Paddock, accompanied by Mrs. Paddock, arrived in Auckland from Rofcorua yesterday. Bishop Paddock is a member of the American Episcopal Church, a branch of tho Church of England, and was Bishop of Eastoru Oregon from 1907 until he resigned on account of failing health in 1922, Before accepting the bishopric he held many important posts in his Church, notably as canon of tho Cathedral of St. John tho Divine, find as rector of the Church of tho Holy Apostles, both in New York. For a term he was general secretary of the Christian Students' Missionary Association. Bishop Paddock came to New Zealand via South America, South Africa and Australia. Landing in Wellington he has travelled through the North Island via. Napier, Taupo and Rotorna. " New Zealand is a beautiful country," he said last evening, "and we are quite in love with it. We have been specially interested in meeting and observing tho Maoris. Your claim that the Maoris arc the finest of the native races of the world seems justified from my observations, but I would remind you that some of the tribes of North American Indians arc also of very high type. "I have been more interested, however, in your own people and their problems than in your scenery and the natives. You have experimented boldly with legislation in many ways and I believe yon can teach us a good deal, just as probably there are some things yon could learn from America. " Yes, I have heard of your harbour. I was much impressed with those at Wellington and Sydney, but I am told you have something even better to show here. I am looking forward to seeing it tomorrow." Bishop Paddock will return to New York by the Niagara, sailing on Tuesday.
