AUCKLAND STOCK EXCHANGE. More than the usual number of sales were recorded on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday, although the market was, on the whole, less animated than on the preceding days of the week. There was fairly general inquiry for Government securities, but sellers quoted in only two instances. In banks business was singularly quiet, buyers seeking New Zealands only. In insurance New Zealands were done at 39s 9d, and South British at 55s 9d. In coal Taupiris changed hands at 18s 3d. More were available at that figure, buyers 17s 6d. In gas Aucklands, contributing issue, had a sale at 8s 4d. In shipping Huddart-Parkers changed hands at 445. In miscellaneous there was little business. Taranaki Oils closed at 12s 6d and lis 3d, against 12s and lis 3d on the previous day. In mining Alburnias were steady at a slightly higher level than on Wednesday. Sales were made at prices ranging from 6s lid to 7s 6d. The market closed at 6s lid and 6s 9d, as against 6s 9d and 6s 6d on the previous day. Moanataiaris had two sales at 2s 9cl, an advance of twopence on Wednesday's sale price. Lucky Shot, contributing issue, sold at is Id, Is and 11x1; and New Waiotahis, contributing issue, at Is lOd (two sales) and Is lid. Waihi Grand Junctions sold at is 3d.
