CONCRETE ROAD PROPOSED, NEW BUILDING FOR BANK.". [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDS?!. ] PAPAKURA, Wednesday. The Papakura Town Board at a special meeting last evening, presided over by the chairman, Rev. W. C. -Wood, discussed the question of submitting loan proposals to the ratepayers for concreting the Great South Road throngh Papakura and carrying out subsidiary permanent work in the business area of the town. Tentative estimates for the scheme were considered, and it was decided that these be submitted to the consulting engineer, Mr. A. Greville Walker, for review, the engineer to be asked to return them in time for the ordinary meeting next Monday with a new to a poll being taken in due course. i -
- A contract for the erection of premises for tho Bank of New Zealand at Papakura has been let and tho work of levelling the site, which is on the Great South Road at the north end of tho business area, is in hand. The building, which is to be of permanent material, will bo a handsome structure comprising a banking chamber in front aud resiiden : tial quarters at the rear. Tho contract price is in the neighbourhood of £SOOO, and the contractors arc Messrs. C. J. McEntee and Sons, of Papakura. The erection of a private hotel in wood near the tennis courts has also been commenced.
