SYMPATHY WITH STRIKERS, ATTITUDE BEING CONSIDERED. Renter WASHINGTON, May 4. Tiie American 1 ederation of Labour considers that tho British miners arc justified in their demands for a "decent" living wage, and that their grievances should be "speedily redressed." The president of tho federation, Mr. Win. Green, stated that support of the British strikers by tho American labour unions may bo confined to expressions of sympathy. He suggested that European labour might be in a better position to aid the strikers than were the American workers.
It must be remembered, said Mr. Green, that the unions in Europe were affiliated •with the International Federation, and were so closely related to the British ■workers that they vrero in a position to help them materially, but the non-union miners in tho United States would make any similar move by the union miners here ineffective. Mr. Green and Mr. John Lewis, president of tho Mine Workers of America, are expected to confer with the President, Mr. Calvin Coolidge, before publishing the official attitude of American Labour. They are moving warily, as they consider the British strike is as much a political as an industrial upheaval. They are also unaware to what extent tho Communists are taking part .in it. CANADIAN UNIONISTS MORAL SUPPORT OFFERED. Renter. OTTAWA. May 4 In co-operation with the International Federation of Trades Unions plans arc being made so that should the British strike last for such a period as to necessitate an appeal by the British unions for financial assistance', the appeal can bo immediately brought to the attention of the Trades Labour Congress of Canada. A statement issued by the head office of tho congress to-day says ; " The close ties which bind so many members of the Canadian trades union movement and British workers are an assurance that such an appeal, if found necessary, will be met in a generous spirit." A cablegram sent to the British congress reads : " In your present struggle to maintain the already meagre standards of living of British workers we offer you our fullest
