ANGLING IN THE WAIKATO.
A SPORTSMAN'S IMPRESSIONS. SEASON OPEN TOO LONG. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON. Wednesday. Speaking of the trout fishing season which has just closed, as far as the rivers of this district are concerned, Mr. J. G. Harp, a well-known Hamilton angler, reports that during the last few weeks, and especially since the recent heavy rains, the fishing has been very good in and around Pirongia, Parawera, and Waikeria. Eight excellently conditioned fish averaging about 31b. weight were recently taken, while many others just managed to outdo 'the skill of the angler and got away. Mr. Harp found that all the fish taken during the months of March and April were full of matured eggs, and he is firmly of opinion that the season in these parts at any rate should close quite a month earlier. Regarding the sport in the Waikato River at Hamilton, with the exception of the months of October and November, there has been practically no spot available at all. The fish are there in fair numbers, but after Christmas they would not take the fly. Even eels have been very scarce in the Waikato lately, but large numbers of mullet have been taken on the fly by a very persistent and expert angler.
