Protests against alleged irregularities in the election of various school committees were considered by the Auckland Education Board yesterday. A copy of a letter sent to the Minister of Education by Mr. F. Allen, protesting against the rejection of the nominations of nine candidates posted at Avondale at 10.30 a.m., on April 19, but not delivered until the following morning, was received. Tiie committee reported that only eight members had been elected and submitted the name of Mr. J. Somervell for appointment by the board. It was decided to uphold the election of the eight members and to appoint Mr. Somervell to the vacancy. Allegations of irregularities in the Belmont election were contained in a letter from the ex-chairman and ex-secretary of the committee. The election was upheld. In a number of other cases it was decided to await reports before taking action.
