FRANKLIN BOARD'S WORK. POSITION OF THE FINANCES. [TtY TELEG ha PH. —OWN correspondent.] PUKEKOIIE. Wednesday. The Franklin Power Board was notified by tlie Minister of Railways that the installation of electricity in railway houses and stations throughout the Dominion must be undertaken in order of urgency, and tho department could not accept financial assistance from tho Franklin Board to enable it to do tho work in tho Franklin area forthwith. The chairman, Mr. J. Dean, stated that unless the 10 railway cottages at Mercer were connected, it would not pay the board to run a power lino to Mercer. The chairman and tho engineer, Mr. T. R. Overton, were deputed to approach Mr. Coates on the matter. The secretary submitted a provisional statement of income and expenditure for the year ended March 31, showing a gross profit of £2077 9s Bd, against which £1096 as interest was chargeable, leaving a net profit of £9Bl 9s Bd. In regard to an inquiry from Mr. J. Ridgley when power would be available along the East Coast Road, Waiuku, it was stated that reticulation of this road would need to wait until the negotiations for taking over the Waiuku plant were completed. The engineor reported thut a survey for a power line about 2£ miles long, to include the south-eastern portion of Puke lcohe Hill, had been made, and the Drury. Bombav line was at present being laid off. Light and power would be available at the VVesloy College, Paerata, noxt week. Contracts let by the Tenders Committee to Messrs. G. ll'. Hunt and Sons for wiring groups, seven and eight, OtatiaVVaiuku district, were confirmed, the prices being £515 lis 3d and £539 17s 9d respectively.
