ART BEFORE MONEY.
In these days an author is not only careful about his copyright, but keeps an eye on his serial rights, his film rights, and his American, colonial and Canadian, t<i say nothing of hi 3 theatrical rights. The fact, that the British Museum has recently acquired a rare edition of Gray' 3 Elegy recalls very different days when authors worked for pure love and refused to worry about profits. The Elegy was only published by the poet after it had been in private circulation for some time, because a certain editor blandly announced that he was about to print it. 'iray forestalled the enterprising one, but Gray left all the profits to his publishers, and subsequently refused to accept payment for any of his work.
