RUGBY TOURING TEAMS
AUSTRALIAN COMPLAINT. NEW SOUTH WALES LOSSES. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. April 1. Smith's Weekly comments on the annual meeting of the New South Wales Rugby Union. It says the New Zealand delegates dominated the proceedings. " No feature of Rugby politics since the war stands out so much as the subservience of the union to New Zealand," says the paper. "It has almost invariably happened in (he financial transactions which are involved in the interchange of touring teams that New South Wales has held the losing end of the stick. This, in spite of the fact that the tours have usually been chiefly in the interests of the Dominion. " Prior to the war New South Wales controlled the visits of overseas teams, but since the war Now Zealand has taken the lead." The paper quotes figures to show that tours of New Zealand by New South Wales t.earns have almost always been profitable, whereas under the present financial arrangements the visits of New Zeland teams to New South WaTes have been otherwise for the home fide. " So it will probably go on," says the paper. " New Zealand will encourage the game in Sydney by an interchange of tours, but from the geographical nature of the situation she cannot help profiting at the expense of New South Wales. No wonder the members of the Dominion committeo are the staunch admirers of New South Wales they proved themselves to be at the last meeting of the local union "
