OBITUARY.

MR. C. W. CROOK. MEMBER OF HOUSE OF COMMONS. A. iul N'.Z. I.ON DON. March 30. The death has occurred of Mr. Charles \Y. Crook. Conservative member for the north division of East Ham in the House <>f Commons, aged 64. The late Mr. C. W. Crook was formerly headmaster of the Wood Gj-een Central County secondary school and ex-president of the National Union of Teachers. Ho was also a member of the Rurnham Committees, member of the Senate of London University and of the Royal Commissions on the. position of natural science in Britain. He was born on March <?, 1862, and educated at St. James' National School, Barrow-in Eurness; Alston College, near Preston; and St. John's College, Battersea. He was the author and editor of many educational works and a special contributor to the educational supplement of the Times and chairman of directors of the Schoolmaster Publishing Company. He had represented the north division of East Ham since 1922.
