SUPREME COURT JUDGES.
APPEAL COURT SESSIONS. THE EASTER VACATION. Mr. Justice Herdman will preside nrftf to-day's sitting of the Auckland Supreme Court for the last time, until after the pending sittings of the Court of Appeal, which he will attend in .Wellington next week. Chief Justice Skerrett, who was recently appointed in succession to Sir Robert Stout, will pay his first official visit to Auckland alter Easter, and will hear the cases standing on the list in the absence of Mr. Justice Stringer and Mr. Justice Herdman, His first sitting will take place about April 14. The two divisions of the Court of Appeal, with the exception of the Chief Justice, jsrill sit together in Wellington on the Monday after Easter, to hear two important cases. One of these is a case from Auckland, adjourned from last year, in which Thomas Clarence Carswell was charged before Mr. Justice Herdman, in February of last year, with bigamy. The question for determination is whether a person who re-marries after a decree nisi for divorce has been obtained by his wife and before the decree has been made absolute, is responsible at law for that offence. The jury which tried the case returned a formal verdict, of guiltv and added a rider sympathising with the accused "in the unfortunate position' in which he had been placed by his former solicitor," sentenco being deferred pending the decision of the Court of Appeal on the law point. No sittings of the Auckland Court will be held between to-morrow and April 14, owing to the Easter vacation, during which, from Tuesdav next, the offices of the Court will bo closed each day ai mid-day.
