TWO DEATHS AT SEA.
MEMBERS OF SHIP'S GREW
FORMER VOLUNTEER SEAMEN
Two members of the crew of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's steamer Waimana died while the ship "was en route from Southampton to Auckland, and both were buried at sea. Mr. A. E. Edwards, assistant cook, aged about 34, died on the evening of February 26, as the result of an attack of double pneumonia. Mr. W. C'orbett, assistant butcher, aged •30, died on the evening of March 13. The cause of death was a double stricture. It is stated that Mr. Corbett did not make known his condition until it was too late. Everything possible was done by the ship's surgeons, Dr. ,T. H. .Shaw and Dr. C. BL C. Searby, to save the lives of the deceased. Mr. Edwards wan an Englishman, but it is understood that Mr. Corbett was a New Zealander who came from the To Puke district. Both went to England on the Matakana as volunteer seamen, and were working their passages back to New Zealand.
