Subject to'final approval by the Government .the Tongariro National Park Board has made such progress with the terms and cj<>nd)ti ; 6iis of the park franchise—the exclusive right to take over buildings and erect a hostel, etc.—that it is hoped to invite applications shortly. When the chairman of the board, Mr. J. B. Thompson (Under-Secretary for Lands), was approached to-day and was asked whether the terms and conditions of the proposed lease had been finalised he briefly indicated the great scope and volume of the preliminary work that had been done and expressed the hope that in. about three weeks or a month after the adjustment of certain details the board would be able to invite applications throughout New Zealand from persons desirous of taking over the privileges referred to. . - ■ •
