DOMINION SWIMMING.
TWO RECORDS LOWERED. | BRIDSON AND FAIRGRAY. MISS PAGE AND BAIRD WIN. [by telegraph.—own correspondent. J NAPIEE, Monday. The New Zealand swimming championships wore continued this evening in delightful weather and as a result the attendance was particularly largo. Tho racing and diving were of a very high order. Two records were lowered, G. Bridson, the Auckland intermediate boy, reducing his previous record of 5m 56 2-5s by 9 l-ss. to 5m 47 1 5,i, and L. Fairgray, another Aucklander, winning the 150 yds. backstroke championship in lm 55s io reduce his previous time of lm 56 4-ss. However, both put up times faster than ( tho listed records in the recent Auckland championships, Bridson s time being 5m 50 l-5s and Fatrgray's lm 52 3-ss. A. E. Baird followed up his victory in the mile bv annexing the 220vds. championship and Miss !'■ Pago won tho ladies' 220vds. event.
The diving was of a very high standard The field included two ex-champions, 11. Walker (Otago) and W. Hicks (Wellington). The compulsory dives weiro taken and probably never in the history of the New Zealand championship has such a high standard been shown. W. Kcesing (Canterbury), war, not present to defend his title, Hicks, Walker and Calder (Otago), were particularly good off both the low and high boards. The final' dive will be held on Wednesday night. Details ol the Results. Results are as follow: — MEN'S 220 YDS. CHAMPIONSHIP. First Heat: A. E. Baird, (Auckland), 1; D. Pelham (Auckland), 2; D. P. Lindsay (Canterbury), 3. Time, 2m. 36 2-ss. Second Heat: J. Cameron (Wellington), 1; N. Dowsett (Wanganui), 2; J. Enwright (Auckland), 3. Time, 2m. 52 2-ss. Final. A. E. Baird (Auckland) . . . . 1 I). Pelham (Auckland) . . . . 2 D. P. Lindsay (Canterbury) . . . . 3 The final was very spectucnlar. I)owsett led over three laps with Pelham, Baird and Enwright 'in close attendance, but at about 150 yds. Dowsett seemed to tiro and Enwright forged ahead. Baird then began to assert himself and sprinting in splendid style, followed closely by Pelham, drew out to wip. Pelham was second and Lindsay, who came from nowhere, boat'Enwright for third place. The time, 2m. 32 1-us., is 3-ss. outside L. L; Ivronfeld's New Zealand record.
LADIES' 220 YDS. CHAMPIONSHIP. Miss P. Page (Auckland) .. .. 1 Miss J. Bell (Auckland) .. ..2 Miss E. Stockley (Auckland) . . . . 3 This was a very fine race, particularly between the first three girls. v Miss Bell assorted herself early in the contest and led over about 200 yds. of the distance. Miss Page then clapped on the pace anu put about 2yds. of water between herself and Miss Bell, Miss Stockley being about the same distance away. Miss Bell tired with her effort over the initial part of the journey and Miss Stockley came up with a fine burst of speed, but she was unable to catch the leaders. Time, 2m, 57 4-ss. BACK STROKE CHAMPIONSHIP, 150 Yds. L. Fairgray (Auckland) . . . . 1 ,C. Herd (Canterbury) . . . . . . 2 Fairgray led Herd at the end of the first lap by 2yds., and had him well beaten at the ICOyds. mark, going on to win comfortably with at least Byds. to spare. Time, 1m 555, a New Zealand record. INTERMEDIATE GIRLS' 100 YDS. First Heat: Miss K. Miller (Otago), 1;' Miss M. Simmonds (Hawke's Bay), 2; Miss J. Whyman (Wanganui), 3. Time, .72 3-ss. Second Heat: Miss M. Jepson (Otago), 1; Miss N. Farquhar (Auckland), 2; Mis 3D. Magee (Auckland), 3. Time, 71 l-ss. Final. Miss M. Jepson (Otago) . . . . 1 Miss M. Farquhar (Auckland) . . 2 Miss K. Miller Time, 71 l-ss. In a sterling race all the competitors kept close together for practically the whole way. Miss Jepson drew away from the field on the final lap and won by three-quarters of a length in 71 l-ss. Miss Whyman was close up fourth, and bettered standard time. INTERMEDIATE BOYS' 440 YDS. G. Bridson (Auckland) .. , , 1 W. Rvelands (Wanganui) , . , . 2 W. Fitch (Canterbury) 3 Bridson had no difficulty in successfully defending his title. 4 He put plenty of water between himself and his nearest rival, Ryelands, and finished very strongly in the great time of sm. 47 l-55., which constitutes a new Dominion record, being 9 l-ss. below his listed record. Ryelands also swam a good race, but,ho >vas outclassed. JUNIOR BOYS' BREASTSTROKE, 75YDS. Cawell (Wangnnui) 1 J. Hamilton (Hawke's Bay) . . . . 2 Wanganui's small representative proved much superior to his opponent and won easily in 79 l-ss. • INTERMEDIATE BOYS' DIVE.
