RANGITAIKI LAND DEALS.

OLD SETTLER SELLS OUT. BIG AREA FOR FLAX CULTURE. [Br TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] WHAKATANE, Monday. A land deal of considerable importance to this district has just been completed, Mr. T. Seccombe having" sold the whole of his properties on the Rangitaiki Plains, aggregating 3811 acres. The purchase prices total £30,315. The Matata property of 3200 acres has been acquired by Messrs. G. T. Nicol and Robert Burns, of Auckland, who intend that the area shall be used for flax culture, for which purpose the land is said to be very suitablei The price was £6 per acre. The planting of such a large area in flax should resuft in the development of a big industry on the plains. A block of 320 acres at Te Teko was sold to Mr. D. Sisley,a neighbouring farber, for £l2 per acre, while Mr. Seccombe's Omehu block of 291 acres has been purchased by Mrs. W. J. McClure, of Thornton, for £25 an acre. These two latter blocks are good dairying country, and the new owners intend to develop them to their fullest capacity. Mr. Seccombe, who has been a resident of the district for over 30 years, has now sold all his land here and will visit Aus ; tralia to see relatives at West Maitland, New South Wales. He will also visit the Royal Show at Sydney and later on will take a trip to England.
