(Published by Arrangement.)
NEW ZEALAND TRUCKS FOR NEW ZEALAND TRADE. The Great Northern Foundry—better known, perhaps, as Heffernan and Company, boilermakers, structural engineers and blacksmiths, of 67, Lorne Street—has every sign just now of being a veritablo hive of industry. The roar of machinery, the heavy clanking of girders and iron plates, the bries of the workmen and the hum and bustle of motor-lorries arriving and departing, all contribute toward the general atmosphere of busy enterprise, the reason for which is that best of all reasons in commerce —an ever-increasing volume of trade. At the present time this well-known firm, which has not yet reached its third anniversary, is engaged upon a large contract from the Thames County Council for the supply of their famous, special, side-tipping, all-steel trucks for use on the council roads, a similar contract for tho Auckland City CoupciMiaving only recently been completed. Self-balancing and side-tipping, these excellent modern trucks have no levers or gears to get out of order, and the tipping (which can be worked on either side) can therefore be carried out with the utmost simplicity. With their extensive workshops, fitted up with the most up-to-date, all British plant; a staff of experts in all branches of foundry-work ; and a band of workmen who invest all the orders carried out on tho premises with the greatest amount of energy and interest, Heffernan and Company" are justly proud of the enviable position they have attained in the foundrywork industry of the Dominion. Besides their noted trucks the firm manufactures steel frames for buildings and bridges, fancy iron balustrading, boilers, steel roofs and fencing, verandahs, wireless aerials, girders and gates, and forging and acetone-welding are also carried out on the premises. Steel windowsash manufacture is another line in which the firm specialise, and in which they are enabled, by means of up-to-date machinery and competent workmen, to turn out . a first-class article.
Messrs. Heffernan and Company is wholly a New Zealand firm, whose constant aim has been to place tho local foundry on an equal reputation to that enjoyed by the best known firms in the foundrywork industry of Great Britain. They are prepared to undertake orders from any part of New Zealand, and a guarantee may be obtained from them by any prospective client that the articles supplied shall be second to none in workmanship, and that they will last as long, if not longer, than the most finished products of a similar naturo that reach the Dominion from Europe. A most important, factor in the firm's policy is expedition in delivery, and their reliability in this connection has contributed in ~ no small manner to the remarkable strides they have made during the past three yea?sr.
