HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES.

TAXI-OWNERS' OBJECTION. REPRESENTATIONS TO CABINET A protest against the provision in the Public Works Amendment Act making taxi-Gibs of over two tons laden weight "for heavy traffic , fees was recorded at a meeting of the Auckland Taxi Owners' Association last evening. The president, Mr. C. G. Goodman, said the association had been successful in attacking the Auckland City Council by-law which would have made taxis liable for a fee of £7 10s. The proposed regulations would impose a fee of £1 10s per seat on every taxi weighing over 2 tons. A five-seater would thus pay £7 10s and a sevefi-seater £lO 10s. When the regulations were framed it was thought that taxis would be exempt

Tlio association's solicitor, Sir. L. P. Leary, pointed out that the regulations were not open to attack by a test case as were by-laws. The only remedy was to make representations to Cabinet before the regulations were confirmed. It was unanimously decided to make representations for modification of the regulations. Air. Goodman was appointed delegate to place the complaint before Cabinet.
