MILITARY TRAINING.

AUCKLAND DISTRICT CAMPS. THIS YEAR'S PROGRAMME. OVER 7000 MEN TO ATTEND. START AT END OF THIS WEEK. Over 7000 non-commissioned officers and men of territorial and senior cadet units in the Auckland military district will attend training camps this year. The camps ■will commence at the end of this week and will continue Until the middle of May. In mo.it cases the trainees vail undergo a six-day course. In a few instances the units will be in camp for only five days and others will do seven or eight days' i raining. The principal camps will ho at Narrow Neck and Ngaruawahia. At Narrow Keck the trainees will lie housed in hutments and the. units at Ngaruawahia will all be under canvas. At this camp some buildings! have l>een erected since last year to accommodate the stores. The largest camp wili be held at Ngaruawahia at the end of February, when nearly .1000 territorials and officers will be in training. Thousand Senior Cadets. Of the 7000 men and youths who have to go through a course of training this year, about 200 hold non-commissioned rank. Tim rest are privates, including nearly 1000 senior cadets from the secondary .schools. The majority of the territorials are young workers, whose hours of employment or distance from a training centre preclude attendance at weekly parades. There are also a number of University students, who have elected to fulfil their obligations under the annual camp system.

The first detachment for Ng arn aw alii a will leave Auckland next Saturday. The Narrow Neck camp will open next Monday. In accordance with the regulations, trainees wilt be paid 4s a day.
