King in sending his creat mare Onyx against the New Zealand record for a mile and a-half at New Brighton in December, when the pacing ciueen established a new record of 3m 13s. was not allowed to pass without ruitable recognition by members of the New Brighton Trotting Club. The members met on Monday last, when the president. Captain W. Owles, presented Mr. King with a silver cup and J. M c . ssurve y (trainer) with a gold medal. Captain Owies said i.t was the true sporting spirit that prompted Mr. King to send Onyx against the record, and. on behalf of the club, thanked him for the service that had jseen done. The cup bore the following inscription:—"Presented by the New Brighton Trotting Club to Mr. L. G. King, owner of Onvx, who lowered the Australian and New Zealand record to 3m 13s on the club's grass track."
