PANGALOS' NEW BROOM.

A BLOW AT COMMUNISM.

FOREIGN. POLICY UNCHANGED. A. and N.Z.—Sun. LONDON, Jan. 7. General Pangalos, who has assumed the position of Dictator of Greece, has forwarded a message to the Daily Mail. He says "Serious national questions, and the necessity of effectively striking at the subversive Communist propaganda which has been proceeding for two months, threatening the State and society, have forced the Government to assume complete liberty of action freed from internal reaction and restrictive formalities. "I intend to carry out my original programme of consolidating the Republic and securing normal Parliamentary life by tho holding of free elections. The foreign policy of the country remains unchanged. Greece .will remain a member of the League of Nations. " The Government does not consider tho support of tho army sufficient. It relies chiefly on the people's confidence." A message from Athens states that General Pangalos is rigidly introducing economies. He has abolished the two Ministries of National Economy and Public Assistance, and is imposing a tax of £2 on foreigners who enter Greece. The proceeds from this tax are to be devoted to the construction of roads.

The Dictator is also expelling from the monasteries monks who are under 50 years of age, and prohibiting further admissions.
