DARING ROBBERY.
MONEY SNATCHED IN STREET. STRENUOUS CHASE FOLLOWS. OTAHUHU MAORI'S OFFENCE. After following a man whom he had I seen displaying hank notes to the value I of £42 in an hotel at Otahuhu on Monday, a Maori, Toe Pere, niado a sudden attack and decamped with the money. The owner was proceeding along Princes Street when the Maori overtook him and engaged him in conversation. Pere then made a swift grab at the man's waistcoat pocket and secured the notes. A hue and cry was raised and Pere was pursued across country until he disappeared. An hour later Constable Pollard was riding a bicycle in Paninure Road when he saw the hatless Maori board a bus for the city. The constable gave chase, and after furious pedalling he caught up with the bus. The Maori had then only £l7 in his possession, and woidd not admit that there was any more in the roll he seized. When charged with the theft in the Otahuhu Police Court yesterday the Maori pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence.
