TWO SHIPS DELAYED.
TROUBLE ON THE TAHITI. CHRISTMAS DINNER DISPUTE. MAHENO AGAIN HELD UP. By Tolcgraph—Press Association—Copyrisht. (Received £.5 plm.) 'A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. .Tan. 1. The steamer Tahiti was ready to sail lor Wellington at. noon yesterday when the crew threw a rope ladder over the side and left the ship. This was a very sudden extension of a previous trouble on Christmas Day, when the crew alleged that they were not sufficiently catered for to enable them to celebrate the day in a fitting manner. The Tahiti was taken down the harbour nnd .anchored to await a settlement of tho dispute. She sailed at 11 o'clock last night. Several conferences between the crew and. the management proved abortive, and how a settlement was finally reached has not yet transpired. When tho Maheno was due to sail for Wellington at 10 o'clock yesterday morning, a number of firemen were absent and t.hoy did not return until some hours later. The vessel sailed at 4.30 p.m. The Maunganui, which was timed to sail at 3 p.m. for Auckland, was delayed owing to the absence of certain papers which had to bo taken down the harbour to where tho ship was anchored. Bhe left at 6.30 p.m.
