AFFRAY IN IRELAND.
CIVIC GUARDS AMBUSHED. MEMBER OF PATROL KILLED. (Received 9.30 p.m.) Renter. LONDON. Dec. 30. A wild and remote district in County Clare, Ireland, where agrarian disputes and the traffic in poteen between the mainland and the Arran Islands lias caused the. authorities considerable trouble, has been the scene of an attack on a Civic Guards patrol The patrol was ambushed late at night by assailants, who were aimed with rifles and shot-guns. One of the guards was killed. The entire district is being scoured by the Civic Guards and armed detectives, accompanied by troops equipped with machine guns.
