CAMPS FOR MOTORISTS.

EXPERIMENT IN DUNEDIN. | AN OUTSTANDING SUCCESS. WARM PRAISE FROM VISITORS. Whoever first suggested to the Otago Motor Ciub that the establishment of a camp for motorists during the holiday season would be a boon to visiting carowners, can congratulate himself on having conceived a scheme which is not only likely to bo a huge success, but which will also be the forerunner of many such camps wherever travelling motorists assemble, says the Otago Daily Times. Except, possibly at show time, Tahuna Park does not present a very busy appearance, but when visited on Sunday evening, it seemed as if a thriving little town had sprung up. Up till 9.30 p.m. over 80 cars had arrived, and their drivers ?id passengers had established themselves quite comfortably either in tents or in the loose-boxes which had been screened off with hessian and fitted with bunks. Several owners were asked their opinion of the camp generally, and one and all were enthusiastic in their praise of the scheme and the careful preparations that had been made for them. " I think it is a great idea," declared one motorist from Christchurch, " and what I like about it is that we can live as well here as anywhere else, and a lot more cheaply." This point of view must appeal to all who consider it, for the low fee charged for the use of the camp's conveniences is only 5s per head per week. Included in this charge are the use of the gas rings which have been installed, unlimited hot water, which appeals particularly to the. fair sex, and beds, which although not very attractive at first sight, are, on closer investigation, found to be as comfortable as could be desired, and with a spring in them often not to be found in the beds of Srstclass hotels. One camper stated that when Be first drove into the grounds he was somewhat disappointed, but this feeling soon gave way t-o delight when he found how excellent where the arrangements. " Why," he said, " we've even got a store on the ground, where we can buy everything from bacon to fresh milk." A lady, who is occupying a loose-box with her husband and two children, also expressed herself as perfectly satisfied with the conveniences provided, and approved of the be'ds in a most unqualified fashion. From this it may be gathered that no fault can be found with the beds, as if they will pass a woman's critical examination they must surely satisfy the most captious male critic. Another provision that pleases the female section of the campers is the plentiful supply of hot water, of which, even at a late hour, there were two big boilerfuls in evidence. This, | as one man (a married man no doubt) put it, swept away 90 per cent, of a woman's troubles under any circumstances. " Give a woman plenty of hot water to "play with," he remarked sententiously, " and she can do away with most of the minor inconveniences attached to camp life." A party of young motor cyclists, al! members of one of the Northern clubs, were loud in their praises oF the camp, and the opportunity is afforded of an inexpensive holiday.
