NORTHCOTE AFFAIRS.
STAFFORD ROAD RESERVE. LOAN FOR IMPROVEMENTS. The Northcote Borough Council met on Tuesday evening, the Mayor, Mr. C. A. Dcuxberry, presiding. In connection with the petition from 440 ratepayers asking that tho recreation reserve of five acres in Stafford Road should bo laid out, it was resolved that tho necessary steps lio taken to raise the loan of £2IOO authorised for the purpose. About £1550 of this amount is to be refunded to the drainage loan account, leaving £550 available for improvements.
Tho arrangement made by the Mayor with tho Mayor of Birkenhead concerning attendance of the Northcote Fire Brigade at Birkenhead fires for a period of 12 months was confirmed. The Birkenhead Council is to pay the Northcote Council £25 toward the annual upkeep of tho brigade, in addition to paying tho expenses of the firemen at any Birkenhead fire.
The waterworks engineer reported that the water consumption for the month had been 2,363,000 gallons. The Mayor intimated that a meeting of the combined North Shore Borough Councils would bo held to-morrow, when information would be given regarding the Taupo water scheme, and also a suggested supply from Waitakore. It was decided to represent to the Marine Boroughs' Association that the cost of collection of rubbish in connection with the combined North Shore refuse destructor should be a joint matter for the four boroughs.
