DISTRIBUTION OF OIL.
OAMARU AS A CENTRE. COMPANIES NEGOTIATING. - [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] OAMARU. Tuesday. For aome months past communications have been received by the Oamaru Harbour Board from certain oil companies who have applied for lease of an area of land on the foreshore on which to erect huge tanks for the storage of petrol. Oamaru is to be made a distributing centre. Oil tankers will call and pump their cargoes into the tanks and the oil will be distributed by motor-lorry as required. The Oamaru Harbour Board considered to-day the subdivision of portion of reclaimed land for petroleum storage sites. An oil company had definitely applied for an. acre and a-half. and the standing committee had decided that this area be leased by tender. The chairman explained that only one direct application had been received, although thr«e companies were interested. Members were of the opinion that it was a most important thing to get the oil tanks in Oamaru. The proposal was adopted, the upset rental to be fixed at £IOO an acre.
