ALLEGED BURGLARY.
DRAPERY AT WHAKATANE. TWO MEN UNDER ARREST. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.} WHAKATAN'C Tuesday. Arrests were made to-day by Constables Cummings and Quin in connection with .an alleged burglary in the drapery establishment of Bridgers, Limited, last evening or early this morning. The police received 'information of the burglary at nine o'clock this morning and at once proceeded to make investigations. Soon after they were informed that two men had been seen coming from the back of Bridgers' premises in the early hours of the,- morning and that later on iha men were noticed by others. One was stated to have been carrying a sack which appeared to be full. The police eventually visited the camp of a surfaceman on the outskirts of the borough. They made a search of a paddock in the vicinity and discovered all the stolen goods taken from Bridgers', comprising five men's suits, two boys' suits, two overcoats, three hats, several shirts, handkerchiefs and four pairs of boats, the whole being valued at about £4O. Subsequently the police arrested Mat hew Murphv,* a surfaceman employed by the Whakatane County Council, and Albert Alfred Ellis, a labourer, both of whom will appear in the Police Court tomorrow, charged with burglary. •> Two other premises were entered during the night, one being an empty shop next to Bridgers'.
