Concern was expressed by business men a fortnight ago that the Fire Underwriters' Association would not reduce the premium rate as promised when the ratepayers sanctioned a loan for up-to-date lire-fight-ing equipment. It was stated at last night's meeting of the Borough Council, however, that no official intimation has come to hand. Business men have received statements from insurance companies showing that an amendment has been made in the charges. He thus paid an extra twopence per annum for the improved facilities. It was stated at the council meeting that £25,000 of tho £4O,OO'J streets improvement loan had been raised, tho fifth £SOOO being made available from December 1. The Mayor stated that the Finance Committee would now be seeking a lender of the remaining £15,000, which,, however, would riot be required for some mouths.
