DUKE OF YORK.
NEW RESIDENCE IN MAYFAIR. The Duke and Duchess of York find White Lodge, their delightful home in Richmond Park, too far out of town for their winter engagements, and they have taken Curzon House, Curzon Street, Mayfair, as a winter residence. Curzon House is a magnificent dwelling, built in stately style and catering for comfort rather than luxury. It is thfl property of Earl Howe, who has, however, made little use of it since the death of his wife in 1906. Among the near neighbours of the Duke and Duchess will be Princess Mary and Viscount Lascelles, whose residence, Chesterfield House, stands close-by. Other intimate friends of the Duchess who.live in tha neighbourhood are Lord and Ladv Loui3 Mountbatten and Lord and Lady Plunket. It is understood that the Duke and Duchess of York intend to entertain on a considerable scale after they have settled down. They will stHl keep on White Lodge. Curzon House, of which little use has been made for the last 20 years, is an excellent winter headquarters. A comfortable place of the early Georgian period, it is o? npderate size as Mayfair mansions go. It has some 20 bedrooms, and is particularly well arranged for entertainingalthough it is understood that the Duke and Duchess do .not intend to entertain on a large scale, their parties being more in the nature of innate gatherings of friends. Being double-fronted, the house provides dining room, library, morning room, and business room on the ground floor, while from the large hall there is a fine mahogany staircase leading to a beautiful ballroom, two drawing rooms, and two boudoirs on the first- floor. The Adam influence is to be seen in the decorations of ail the apartments. In the days when Earl Howe was in residence there it was the scene of many brilliant functions.
