DELIVERY OF LOCAL MAILS.
Sir, —No doubt the Postal Department deserves credit for the quick despatch of the Aorangi's mail to Wellington. It is much to be regretted that equal energy is not displayed in connection with local mails. The Whangape brought a mail from Australia last week. Letters by her were distributed in Epsom on the afternoon of the day after the vessel's, arrival. The Maheno arrived last Friday, but her mails were not in the private boxes for the 9 a.m. clearance on Saturday. When efficiency is bragged about, it is as well to bear in mind the many instances of inefficiency. To my mind the efficiency of the department is much below its very high standard of 20 years ago. Ad Rem.
