The tragedy at Tantah yesterday, where 54 people were killed and 43 were injured, occurred while the Minister for Pious .Foundations was visiting the annual religious fair. Mounted police were endeavouring to clear a passage through the crowded streets when a number of peasants became panic-stricken and stampeded. Those who were tramped to death included 25 boys, eight girls, 11 men and 10 women. Seven others were seriously hurt. Scores suffered slight injuries.
