LEAGUE COUNCIL TO MEET.
COMPLAINT OF INVASION. FBONTIEB TOWN CAPTURED. DISPUTE NOW DIPLOMATIC. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received 5.5 p.m.) Renter.—Sun. LONDON, Oct. 24. A telegram from Athens, despatched at 5-10 p.m. yesterday, stated that according to advices from Salonika the town of Pefritch, on the Bulgarian side of the frontier, was officially reported to have been captured by the Greeks. A Greek communique issued at 6.25 p.m. yesterday stated that, as the Greek troops had attained their objective at •Petritch. the military operations of Greece might, be regarded as having ended. The frontier incident would now enter into a purely diplomatic stage. A despatch from Sofia yesterday said the Government's Note to the League of Nations complained about a " flagrant armed invasion." It asserted that numerous Greek detachments, accompanied by artillery, invaded Bulgarian territory for a distance of eight kilometres find shelled and bombed the open town of Petritch. Pending action by the. League Bulgaria »vas refraining from resistance. A further telegram has been addressed to the League to-day by the Bulgarian Government. This states that in their combined operations the Greeks penetrated Bulgarian territory on a 32-kilometres front, to a depth of 10 kilometres. It adds that the Bulgarian losses so far are three killed, six officers and one soldier wounded, and seven missing. Also, pevert residents of the undefended town of Petritch were wounded as a result of the artillery bombardment by the Greeks. The Council of the League will meet at, Geneva on Monday to deal with the dispute. Grec-ce and Bulgaria have been invited to have representatives in attendance. In the meanwhile they will abstain from further hostilities. The French Foreign Minister, M. Briancl, telegraphed yesterday to the Athens and the Sofia Governments reminding them of their obligations under the Covenant of the League. A message from Sofia under to-day's date says £> report from Athens to the effect that the Bulgars have occupied Greek territory is officially denied. Not a single Bui gar has crossed the frontier. A message from Geneva says the first communication received by the secretariat of the League of Nations from Greece complains of Bulgarian troops occupying | a, blockhouse in Greek territory. ' Greece informed the League that her Minister at Paris, assisted by three military representatives from Greece, will attend the Councils deliberations on the Graeco-Bulgarian dispute. .Reports from Sofia state that there was further artillery firing by the Greeks yesterday and an advance of Greek units. The Bulgars have up* to the present evacuated 10 villages, of which seven have been ocenpied by the Greeks. Thousands of refugees are camping al fresco. A despatch from Vienna states that Bulgaria has appealed to tho Allied Mili- I tery Control Commission to visit the frontier and inspect the damage which the Greeks' heavy artillery has inflicted on Petritch.
