ELECTIONS IN CANADA.

Oct. 22. .Nominations closed to-day for the Federal general elections. Candidates have been officially named for every one of the 241 constituencies. In the province of Ontario there are 186 candidates who are contesting the 82 seats in the House of Commons. In the three prairie provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta there are 158 nominees for the 54 seats. In British Columbia there are 55 contestants for the 14 seats and in the Quebec province for the 65 seats there are 145 candidates. The maritime provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island have 20 seats, for which there are 58 candidates. Both the Liberals and the Conservatives are contesting almost every constituency. Progressives, Labour representatives and Independents have been nominated in considerable numbers. The total number of candidates is 582. The Liberal Party, headed by the Prime Minister, Mr. W. L. Mackenzie King, lias 216 official nominees, the Conservatives 259, the Progressives 69, Labour, including Farmer-Labour candidates, number 21, and Independents 57. The. nominees include four women, one in New Brunswick, one in British Columbia and two in Ontario. One woman is standing on the Labour ticket, one as a Progressive and two as Independents. The polling date is October 29.
