POLICE COURT NEWS.

- BILL OF SALE IGNORED. " MONEY USED FOR FAMILY." MAN GIVEN A LAST CHANCE. "He is in a hopeless state of impecuniosity," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, after hearing evidence in the case of Jack Yandyk, who appeared for sentence for obtaining £35 by falsely representing that certain goods and chattels subject to a bill of sale belonged to him. Tho case arose from a private information. There was a further charge of being £3O 9s in arrears on a maintenance order.

In reply to the magistrate's question as to what accused had done with the money obtained, the Rev. Jasper Calder said he could certify that it went toward the support of accused's wife and children. * He undertook to "keep an eye" on accused. The maintenance officer, Mr. W, J. Campbell, said accused was in very poor circumstances and had a young family. The Magistrate: It is a bad case, deliberately forging a document and so on. Accused will be given a last chance and convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. The question of maintenance was adjourned for a week. HOTEL PORTER ASSAULTED. For assaulting an hotel porter, Daniel Minihan, a seaman, aged 34, was fined £5, in default 14 days' imprisonment. Evidence was given by John Walter Burdett that he was on duty in the Waitemata Hotel bar on Wednesday afternoon when accused struck him over the eye without provocation.

The licensee also stated that the assault was unprovoked.

REMANDED TO NEW PLYMOUTH. Charges of stealing a tin of shellac and three brushes, of a total value of £2 9s, the property of Pursers, Limited, at New Plymouth, in June, were preferred against Frank Badman, aged 26.

Accused was remanded to appear at New Plymouth next Wednesday.
