LABOUR AND LAND.
I Sir, —At present there is much criticism i of Labour's land policy, a policy justly I condemned by all who wish to be free- ! holders. I only own my own home when { the mortgage is paid ancl I would sooner I have a private landlord than a State landi lord, who would have only an office training. At one time 1 had a Crown lease, and I had so much interference, dictation and imperative directions as to what to do by the commissioner of Crown lands that I never want to have ahe Government as a landlord again. _ Mr. Osborne, at Miiford on the _ Bth rnst., said he would transfer all land agency to a State department. I presume that he meant all land transfers to be done by the public trust offices or by the land transfer offices. The reform would be of infinite benefit to the community and would do away with all extortionate charges. Some time ago I sold a small farm and got a solicitor to pat the money into the bank for mc—the buyer's solicitor prepared the deed. My solicitor's fee was £22 for his part in the transaction. I trust this proposal to enact that the Government will do transfer work will jrmet with the support it deserves. Ajj Elector. i
