VALUELESS CHEQUE PASSED. SIX MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT. A term of six months' imprisonment was imposed on William Ingram, aged' 35, who pleaded guilty in the Police Court yesterday to a charge of obtaining £7 by means of a valueless cheque. He also pleaded guilty to. a charge of trespassing oil the Auckland Trotting Club's course on August 22, and was fined £2O, in default one month's imprisonment. Chief-Detective Cummings said accused had 13 previous convictions, including two years' reformative detention for false pretences. " He has a permanent job in a Government office," said Mr. Adams, who appeared for accused. The Magistrate, Mr. Hunt: Does the Government know that ? Accused : I think so. " Well, you will now have another job in a Government office," said Mr. Hunt, in passing sentence. SEAMEN FROM lIENRIK IBSEN. Three Nerwegian seamen were charged with deserting from the Henrik Ibsen on September 14. Mr. Gray, who appeared for the master of the vessel, said the men were undesirable immigrants. The maximum penalty for the offence was six months' imprisonment, and he asked the magistrate to impost a term of imprisonment until the men could be departed. Arrangements were being made by the Consul for Norway to have them placed aboard a ship. " We do not want them in this country." said Senior-Sergeant Edwards. The accused were remanded for a week. WOMAN CHARGED WITH THEFT. Gertrude Campbell, aged 39, was charged with stealing a dress valued at £2 ss, the property of John Court, Limited. The chief detective said when accused was arrested she refused to give her name. Accused was remanded until next Tuesday. Mr. Cummings said further inquiries were being made. INCIDENT IN STREET. Thomas Alexis Dale and Henrv Teko j were charged with fighting in Customs Street on Tuesday. Dale pleaded not guilty and Teko, who was out on bail, did not appear. Sergeant. Calwell said he saw the accused fighting at about 5.30 p.m. Each one blamed the other. An eye-witness said be saw Teko strike Dale, but did not see Dale hit back. Dale said Teko had a grudge against him and attacked him. The case against Dale was dismissed. Teko was fined £l.
