PRISONERS SENTENCED.
THEFTS IN THE COUNTRY. GAOL AND REFORMATIVE. Two prisoners who had been committed for sentence from country districts appeared before Mr. Justice Hcrdman in the Supreme Court yesterday. Samuel Rattray had pleaded guilty to theft of £27 and goods from a dwelling at Raetihi. He was already serving a sentence for forgery, and had against his name a previous conviction for theft. His Honor committed him to gaol for another six months' hard labour, to bo followed by reformative detention for a period not exceeding 18 months. Tame Otene had admitted at Rotorua charges of breaking, entering and theft. The probation officer's report showed that prisoner spent most of his time in billiardrooms. His sentence was reformative detention for a period not exceeding 12
