Fowke, who has been stationmaster at Te Awamutu for - about nine wars, has been advised of his transfer on promotion to relieving stationmaster, with headquarters at Wellington. Mr. J. Fraser, of Oarnaru, Mr. R. E.Hyde, of Kaikoura, Mr. R. W. Stone, of" Gisborne, Mr. F. Robson, of Featherston, and Mr. T. E. Rothwell, of New York, have been staying recently at Mansion House, Kawan. Viscount Elmlev, of Madresfield Court, Worcestershire, who is touring New Zealand and Australia, arrived, at Wellington from Lyttelton yesterday morning. He is the eldest son of Earl who was Governor of New South Wales from. 139$ to 1901. Mr. H. F. Selwyn Aoom, of the Pacific Cable Board, and Mrs. Allom arrived by the Maunganoi on a visit to Auckland after several years spent m. Canada, and South America. They travelled by way of England and the Continent, joining the Mooltan at Marseilles for Australia. They were accompanied from London by Mrs. A Horn' 3 sister. Miss I. Louch.
