TOMB AS HIDING PLACE.
STOLEN GOODS IN VAULT. RECOVERY BY DETECTIVE. The arrest or a man suspected of theft on Monday morning led to a recovery of stolen property in a vault in the Symonds Street cemetery. After a conversation the man. led Detective Barling to an old tomb under Grafton Bridge. The detective climbed through a small opening into the vault and iound gramophones and a violin bidden inside. In another part of the cemetery property was found hidden behind a tombstone.. All the property, it is alleged, is the proceeds of a burglary. Frederick Oswald Sakey, aged 33, was charged in the Police Court yesterday with breaking and entering the shop of the Lyric Talkeries on the night of October 3 and stealing two gramophones, a violin, bow, and case, 28 gramophone records, a cheque for £1 15s and £l6 in cash, of a total value of £sl 15s, the property of S. and T. Adams, Ltd. Chief-Detective Cummings said further charges were pending. Accused was remanded until October 22.
