, - MAUD REACHES SEATTLE. - LONG DRIFT THAT FAILED. AMUNDSEN TO SELL VESSEL. By Telegraph—Prcw Association—Copyright. (Received 10.35 p.m.) Eeuter. NEW YORK. Oct. 6. Captain Koald Amundsen's exploration schooner M3ud, which sailed from Seattle, Washington, on June 3, 1922, in topes of drifting iu the Arctic ice across the North Pole, has* returned to that port. The ship was ordered to Seattle by Captain Amundsen to be sold. The crew are to be dispersed. Although the Maud drifted and shouldered her way to about 2500 miles west ctf Nome, Alaska, the currents carried her very slightly in a northerly direction. For this reason Captain Amundsen ordered tho expedition to be abandoned. The coldest temperature experienced on the drift was 84 degrees below zero.
