L Sydney women, realising that if they are to be fashionable they must keep slim, are Dj\v faithful followers of a liquid diet. They have been assured that, it is guaranteed, more than anything else, to reduce weight. The idea is that for 24 hours, once o week, one must not touch ativ solid food, although the liquid may he equally nourishing. Beef tea, chicken broth, barley water, milk,, tea, coffee, and iamen drinks, it is announced may ail be effectively introduced in the liquid menu by those who wish to conform to (he hi test vagary of fashion and keep the figure as slim as possible so that the straight line may be maintained. Some of the women of Sydney have arranged then liquid diet to coincide with the maid's day off. It saves cooking. Gladys Moncrieff, the actress, it is announced in one of the afternoon papers, is willing to give her recipe for reducing weight, on receipt of 10s, which will go toward the taabies m one of the big hospital! l !. Whether her recipe, however, ambraces a liquid diet is known only to those who are paying for their advice" and thus assisting the hospital. But tha fanaticism of fashion, like every other excess, provokes a reaction before long. ' " Is this your liquid day ?" is a popular question nowadays, if the Sydney social writers are to be believed. But the reaction will come, it will be fashionable to l>e fat, and then the question will probably be, "Is this your beefsteak day t" or something of the sort
