MOUNT ALBERT BOROUGH.
appointment of engineer. MR. COOK, OF NEW PLYMOUTH. The Mount Albert Borough Council at a special meeting last evening appointed Mr. W. H. Cook as resident engineer. He is at present borough engineer at New Plymouth, There were 26 applicants for the position, Mr. Cook attended last evening's meeting to meet the council. Mr. Cook was appointed borough engineer at Petone in 1904 and suosequently filled a similar position at Hastings. When he went to New Plymouth in 1915 he was selected irons among 33 applicants. He has carried out many important works in New Plymouth including extensions to the water supply and drainage systems and the inauguration of a comprehensive street improvements policy. His appointment to Mount Albert should give considerable satisfaction because of recent years there has been a sustained agitation by ratepayers for the engagement of si ch an officer to initiate a comprehensive -works policy and undertake close supervision of the expenditure of loan moneys. The rapid growth of the district and the consequent demand for extensions and improvements to street and drainage works and water supply has lately proved "a positive embarrassment to the council and it decided to appoint a resident engineer as a preliminary to placing the engineering branch on a footing commensurate with its responsibilities.
