HENRIK IBSEN DESERTERS.
THE IMMIGRATION ACT. ORDER FOR DEPORTATION. [By TELEG RAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TAUBANGA, Tuesday. Two Norwegian sailors, H. Helgcson and J. Hodal, were charged to-day with deserting from the Henrik Ibsen. Mr. Tudhope, who said he was appearing under instructions from Mr. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., of Wellington, asked that the charges be withdrawn as proceedings were to be taken under the Immigration Restriction Act. The charges were accordingly withdrawn and Helgesen and Hodal were then charged that on September 21 at Mount Maunganai, being prohibited immigrants, • they did unlawfully land in New Zealand, contrary to section 18 of the Immigration Restriction Act, 1808. Constable Skinner said the object of the proceedings was to place the men on the fcfceamer when she returns to New Zealand in two or three months. The expenses against the men amounted to 50s. Each of the accused was convicted and fined 10s and ordered to pay costs, 50s. They were also ordered to be removed from New Zealand. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. 3 WHANGABEZ. Tuesdny. Two seamen, alleged deserters from the Henrik Ibsen, were to-day remanded by Mr. B. W. Tate, S.M., to appear at Auckland.
