TRADE WITH THE SOUTH. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TAURANGA. Wednesday. The Tauranga Lawn Tennis Club at its annual meeting elected the following officers;— President, Mr. F. A. Stevens; committee, Mrs. Henderson, Miss Daines, Messrs. W. G. Watkins, D. Ivory, H. B. Mountfort, R. T. Goulding and H. P; Butts; secretary, Mr. G. A. Gibbs; auditor, Mr. R. B. Shearman. Twelve new members were elected. It was decided to affiliate with the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association. The Omokoroa branch of the Farmers' Union unanimously resolved th/it, now the general public us?.d the roads of the Dominion to a much greater extent than did the landowners, the time had arrived for the Government/ to bear the greater part if not the whole cost of constructing and maintaining all public roads. An offer by Mr. Munro to donate a site for a hall at Omokoroa was accepted by the union. Messrs. R. Francis, C. E. Gane and U. McClinchie were appointed trustees. It was resolved to support the school committee's request for the enlargement of the school. The Tauranga Chamber of Commerce discussed the matter of communication with southern ports. The secretary of the Whangarei Harbour Board, in writing on the subject, stated that his board was confident that if a suitable vessel were obtained or -a company formed it would receive support from the business people of Whangarei and other ports. His board had invited the co-operation of the Bay of Islands Harbour Board to join in agitating for such a service. The Tauranga chamber decided to get in touch with the Whangarei chamber and also to communicate with certain shipping companies in Well- \ motion was unanimously adopted by the Chamber of Commerce urging the Tauranga Harbour Board to erect cool stores with a view to the establishment of a grading , port at Tauranga.
