MOUNT MORGAN FIRE.
TASK OF FIRE-FIGHTERS. NO OTHER WORK UNDERTAKEN. A. and N.Z. BRISBANE. Sept. 15. Latest investigations regarding the fire in the Mount Morgan copper mine show that the outbreak originated in an ore pocket on the 650 ft. level. The main shaft is now sealed down and it is believed that the outbreak will soon bo extinguished. It is stated by Mr. Lynch, president of the Australian Workers' Union, that it was decided that the miners should give their services voluntarily in fighting the fire, but that it was intended to ask the company to pay the amount of the basic wage for the period that the men worked at the fire into t';o union's distress fund. It has been recommended that permission be Riven to the company's staff, with as many volunteers as it was possible to obtain, to enter the mine to combat the fire. It was thought that those who entered the mine should only do the work necessary to extinguish the outbreak. Thereafter it was the men's intention to see the fires drawn and the pumps closed down. The pickets would be called on to see that the work was done as intended. a
