BIBLE IN SCHOOLS.
Sir,—Mr. Norman E. Burton is not, I think, treating mo with tho frankness I deserve at his hands. I have no objection to " doctrines." I am, in point of fact, rather partial to them. Historically they aro surprisingly interesting. I Uo, oil religious and educational grounds, object to doctrines which may bo stated, but may not bo discussod. I object lo bemg told no doctrines aro involved when I know tho opposite is tho fact. Where freedom to discuss doctrines. iJioories, or opinions is denied I protest th.it their assertion is an offence against truth. It ought to occur to Mr. Burton that there must bo 501110 reason why no 0110 objects to teachers dealing with God in Shakespeare and large numbers object to teachers dealing with God in tho Biblo. Mr:' Burton's assertion in respect to the English County Council schools does not impress mo more, I think, than ho would be impressed if I told him what the lato Dr. Parker said in England concerning' " The Secular Solution."
