ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL, A PROTRACTED SEASON.
TOO MANY SPECIAL CONTESTS, y J; DECISIONS OF COMMITTEE. r, The maxißgemeni committee of th© Auck- •_ laud Football Association met last evening. Mr. Andrew Menriea preaiding over a full d attendance of members. j A letter waa received from Hellabye* j Club asking for a rehearing of the ca«o f . of Kane, one of their players who waa rel6 cently suspended. The club delegate sub[r mitted that as the matter had been dealt a with by two different committees, the ren quest was reasonable. was decided to h refer the applicants to rule 13 and advise 11 them that as 110 fresh evidence bad been" it submitted the Auckland executive could not •r reopen the matter and the only course open 5. to the club was to appeal to the New Zealand Council in Wellington. Several club delegates asked if it would not be possible to do away with early I- matches for senior teams on Blandford a Park. The epes.kors argued that it was imJ, possible for men to do themselves justioe in h games commencing at 1.30 p.m. because of the e rush entailed, some players not being able it to leave their work until 1 p.m. The chair--8 man stated he would like to remedy the >f matter, but did not see how it would be 'S possible this season. The whole iroublo '• was that in recent years the football seasons s had been allowed to drag out too long. The is chief reason for this was that there were 0 too many representative and special cup contests. Not only in the "soccer" code but , in others, the tendency was to study the >. spectators with big attractions Mid the result had been that the ordinary club player, who' was the backbone of the sport, did not get sufficient football, or else bad to play right on into the summer months. Mr. 3 Manzies added that he believed in club games being the chief consideration and n contests against, visiting teams should be 6 reduced to a minimum. He intimated his ie intention of working toward this end. Later in the evening it was agreed r>ot to com)i m ence tho first game on Elandford Park until 2 pjn. in future and the principal ' match at 3.30. This was now possible ;T owing to the lengthening days. „ A complaint was received from the " Y.M.C.A. Club regarding two Thistle players who did not wear correct club colours in their match at the Domain last Saturday. It was alleged that this cost Y.M.C.A. the match, as a penalty was given against them 1 when in reality a Hustle player in a red and blaok jersey had been the offender. Mr. Findlay, the referee, when called before the meeting, said there was no question of a mistake. He was absolutely clear as to who had committed the offence and had ruled accordingly. He could not possibly . have become .confused, as the incident hap--1 pened during the taking of a corner kick, when _ne was right alongside the player ho penalised. It was resolved that the coms mittee take no action. On the motion of Mr. F. M. Ritchie it was deoided to hold an athletic sports meets ing for members of affiliated clubs on Blandford Park at the close of the season. A y committee was chosen to go into the matter d and report on it at an early date, after conferring with a delegate of each club on il Monday, September 28. The committee appointed consists of Messrs. F. M. Ritchie, H. Reason, H. Gribble and A. J. Hankins. The meeting with the club delegates will take place in the -Y.M.C.A, building at 7.30 p.m. A complaint was received from Ponsonby Club that sufficient travelling expenses had not been paid them by South Auckland in connection with their Chatham Cup match against Pukemiro at Huntly. It was decided '■ to instruct Ponsonby to put the complaint in writing and then the matter would be * taken up officially with the New Zealand d Council. H " ' SATURDAY'S GAMES.
