THORP'S BUSH AREA.
PLAN FOR PRESERVATION.
COUNTY COUNCIL FAVOURABLE.
A plan for the preservation as a scenic reserve of two beautiful patches of bush in tho Wairoa Parish in tho County of Manukau was outlined in a letter received from Mr. H. J. Lowe, commissioner of Crown lands for North Auckland, at a meeting of the Manukau County Council yesterday. The greater portion of the busli is on property owned by the council and is known as Thorp's Bush. Mr. Lowo stated he had personally inspected the proposed -reserve and was of opinion that it was more suited for a scenic reservo than for pastoral purposes. He was delighted with the view from the top of the .hill and considered the whole area should bo preserved for the use and enjoyment of the public. .To complete tho scheme for the formation of an attractive reserve flit would be necessary to include the council's land known as Thorp's Bush. Mr. Lowe suggested that all_ the land held by the council not required for a quarry'should be gazetted a reaerve. Tho whole area would then be approximately 230 acres, and the council would be appointed a board to control it. If tho council would agreo to this the Grown would endeavour to secure the patch of bush on neighbouring land so that the whole of it might be*kept intact for tho use and enjoyment of the public. In conclusion, Mr. Lowe said that this tvas an attempt to preserve for tho benefit of this and future generations an area giving a magnificent view and two line clumps of native bush. After a brief discussion, in which members expressed themselves in favour of' the scheme, it was decided to authorise the riding member to submit the proposal to the ratepayers.
