An inspection of the channel giving access to tho boatsheds at St. George's Bay is to bo made by the Works Committee of the Auckland Harbour Board. Complaints have been made that the channel has been silting up and that yachts havo been left high and dry at low water. At the request of Mr. J. B. Johnston, the Harbour Board's engineer, Mr. D. Holderness, furnished a report to the board yesterday showing that soundings at the approach to the sheds were much the same as they were last year, proving that silting had not occurred. Tho chairman, Mr. 11. R. Mackenzie, said tho eastern tide deflector Was built at a cost of £6OOO to preserve the boat harbour at St. George's Bay and last year the channel leading to the sheds was dredged at a cost of £IOOO to the satis* faction of ali concerned. The engineer's report showed that the channel still remained clear. At the urgent representations of Mr. Johnston and Mr. C. G. Macindoe, who reiterated that boats were left dry at low water, the Works Committee was requested to inspect the bay and report on the position.
